As anyone who has who has ridden on a long bicycle tour and blogged about it for over three weeks continually can tell you, it takes a lot of energy! Iām very happy to take the day off for our rest day and instead hand recap duties over to my traveling companion. So without further ado, the most experienced touring cyclist I know, my friend and father, first-time guest blogger, the incomparable Myron Skott.
Leon is powerful, but it all revolves around Moe
- Myron Skott
Today was a ārest dayā in Charleston, SC and we were lucky enough to spend the day and two nights with Mikeās longtime friend Josh, who has a very nice new home in North Charleston, about 8 miles north of downtown. Great dinner by Josh last night, then today Josh and Mike biked on their own while I dreamed up what to write and then went cycling on my own. I have good memories in Charleston (ask me for the story if we ride together) as the 2004 First East Coast Greenway Tour came through, again with Cathy in 2008, and on each of the Cabot Community Tours. I even visited Charlotte Street Park where we attended a ceremony at a ECG meeting in 2014. I had some lunch and ārattledā around. Just what a rest day is for.
When I was about to head back to Joshās, I got a text that the boys had ridden 23 miles; I had ridden 25, not bad for an old guy on rest day!
This bike trip has been fun and interesting, like others in many ways, unlike any other in having my son along, and who knows what surprises and adventure are still to come. I have not ever traveled with someone publishing a daily blog, so if you are watching you already know a lot about our daily progress, but there are two new friends traveling with us that Mike has given little attention to. I feel that they are too powerful and central to the trip to be ignored any further.
I am pleased to introduce Leon (a.k.a. Li-ion / Lithium Ion). He is a hard worker all day long and it seems that all he asks in return is to āget juicedā each night. I was unable to get a picture of him at work, but I have attached a picture of Leon ājuicing up.ā
Also new on this ride is Moe (aka Motor),Ā as hard a working guy as you could ever meet, he is round and robust. He gives off a āvibeā that lets everyone know that he feels everything revolves around him, but the day seems to go well when you let things do just that. He and Leon work together, in virtual silence, all day long. Moe is somewhat stealthy and keeps a low profile, unnoticed by many but appreciated none the less. I was able to catch a shot of him giving a little motivation to all the spokes around him, a thing he calls ārevolution.ā
While I have traveled by bicycle approximately 155,000 miles in 30 years, only the last few thousand have been with Leon and Moe, but I doubt that I will be taking any more rides without these guys in the future. They seem to be pointing the way to how to keep biking as my strength seems to be waning with time for some āunknown reason.ā

I remember some of the Charleston bike riding stories, as I was able to be there with you and Cathy on a couple of them.... the restaurant adventure with one of Cathy's previous culinary student (now a chef) that invited us to his restaurant and fed us was amazing and a story that I tell whenever I get the chance. Regarding 'Larry & Moe".... I mean 'Leon and Moe"... you have already convinced me that these guys are great traveling buddies and they will be joining me on my rides in the very near future... Mike has done a marvelous job creating and updating this website... good work Mick.... you guys have a safe remainder of the ride .... hope to see you soon... happy trails...

You are both great bloggers! I read every day, and Iāll miss it when itās over. Iām so happy to learn about Leon and Moe. I think we should make them honorary Skottās!

Absolutely loved your blog and the introduction for Leon and Moe. I agree that we should always ride with them. Thank you Josh for hosting my guys. I know Myron got a good nights sleep and Iām sure Mike did too. Sounds like a perfect rest day. Advising early start times now that you are back in the south and headed inland away from the ocean breeze. Soon youāll be back in Georgia where good karma hangs heavy in the humid air. May the wind be at your back as good karma rains down on you both as you turn towards home! ā¤ļøā¤ļø
